Stupid Radio Censorship
Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at 11:06AM So the Black Eyed Peas came out with their newest album, which after a few listens I must say is quite catchy...it's no Monkey Business or Elephunk, but close. Anyway, the radio has had in quite strong rotation their two singles off the album, one being Boom Boom Pow. They of course censor the obligatory swearing, opting to stretch their voices and eliminate the vulgarity, as apposed to replacing it with a similar rhyming word - I'm neither here nor there on whether I like that way or the word-replacement censorship. The real gripe I have is with one line from the song - the album version says "Here we go here we go satellite radio." Imagine my utter shock at hearing the radio version instead say "Here we go here we go <BLANK> radio." I had to hear it a few times on the radio to convince myself it was even censored at all, and then double check the lyrics to make sure I wasn't mis-hearing the album version's "satellite" inclusion. So terrestrial radio is so stupid now that they feel it's necessary to censor the word "satellite" in reference to radio feeds? Really? Unbelievable.
